Here is the local liquor
store's version of a bank of vertical windows. In cities, many of the
Postmodern designs are essentially vertical and windows like this are
less incongruous.

The Kinburn Pharmacy,
standing south of the Anney River where Main Street meets Clairmont is
another strange medley of past designs. There is another of those
circular windows in the gable close to the peak of the roof and two
solid-looking square windows immediately below. There is something of
the old Greek temple look in the side columns. Face mouldings are quite
heavy handed. And there we have that triangular dormer containing
tripartite windows that I was warning you about. Those four dormers
might pass for Georgian except for the square windows. The cupola is
almost overpowering. The effect is a weird, but not unpleasant, amalgam of the wildly diverse elements..

Shades of the Gothic Revival on Main Street.
Palladian Gothic at that! This mix is definitely eye catching and
that building on the right definitely harks back to Classical models.
The "massive" chimneys The gable returns are certainly traditional. The
form of the smaller house is Neoclassical and could be a renovation.
Allen Penney says "Post modern could
well be vehicle for another spate of extravagant
experimentation." That might be a step forward if architects are able to break away from their Mondrain syndrome.
