lunenburg

Early Fortifications of Lunenburg. 1. Small blockhouse, 2. Tetragonal Fort and blockhouse, 3. Pentagonal Fort and blockhouse, 4. Small blockhouse, 5. Large blockhouse. The streets and features shown in pea green did not exist in 1753, and structures outside the palisade (orange lines)  were not developed in the "Garden Lots" until the following year. King Street  (purple) was double width and at first penetrated the town from north to south.   "The Parade" was owned by the province until ceded to other others in 1828. The Church of England, the official religion of  Nova Scotia at this time,  was represented by a church (yellow) sited within these public lands.
